To celebrate International Women’s Day we asked some of our team some questions about which women inspire them, what inclusivity means to them and what is their favourite female achievement and why…here’s what they said…

From Jake – Purchasing Manager

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

My Wife, Mum, Grandma, and Sister. They are all incredibly strong women who have been through and achieved a lot in their lives and helped shape the person I am today.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Demonstrating understanding, fairness, and kindness to everyone.

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

My Grandmother beating breast cancer in her late 80’s. She lived for another 10 years after her surgery, and it was inspiring to know she had beaten something like this at such a late stage in her life. She was an incredible woman who put nothing but good into the world, so I’m happy she was able to stick around longer than anticipated.

From Megan – Marketing Executive

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Princess Diana, a pioneer for women making a change in the world.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Being in a team where everyone is supported and listened to.

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Karren Brady becoming the ‘first lady’ of football, a very male dominated industry. She was appointed managing director of Birmingham City Football club when she was just 23. Impressive!

From Rosie – Creative Project Lead

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Emma Watson, not only for Harry Potter but for her constant aspiration to learn and help others using her platform, particularly her advocacy for gender equality, her role as UN Women Goodwill Ambassador, education advocacy and philanthropy. I have found inspirational.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Diversity, equity (fair opportunities for everyone), respect and empathy, accessible and welcoming spaces, representation (everyone getting a voice striving to go beyond tokenism and striving for genuine inclusion in all aspects of life).

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Vivienne Westwood for being a fashion icon, punk fashion pioneer, activism through fashion (using her platform to advocate for environmental and social issues, promoting sustainability and raising awareness about climate change), her entrepreneurial success, cultural influence and knighthood (awarded the Order of the British Empire for her services to fashion).

From Hannah – Account manager

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Marilyn Monroe – “Strong women don’t have attitudes, we have standards”, she was a symbol of positivity and confidence for many women. She was a free spirit that gave so much value to women’s liberty and their equality to men.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Inclusivity is about creating a supportive and inclusive environment where women can excel. It is about recognising and addressing the unique challenges that women face and implementing strategies to overcome them.

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Ruth Handler, inventor of the Barbie Doll. This was my favourite toy growing up and really helped me in being creative and free in my playtime – I really could be anything when I played with my barbies.

From Gemma – Business Development manager

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Michelle Obama, as first lady Michelle Obama served as a role model for women and an advocate for poverty awareness, education and nutrition.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

Treating everyone equally

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Amelia Earhart flying solo over the Atlantic Ocean.

From Richey – Graphic Designer

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Viola Davis. Viola is an American actress and producer who is one of the few performers to have been awarded an Emmy, a Grammy and an Oscar. The ONLY black actor to achieve the Triple Crown of acting – as it is known.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

It is to embrace all people irrespective of race, gender, disability, medical or any other need, it goes beyond just ‘tolerating’ or ‘acknowledging’, but is about giving equal access and opportunities to all, and to rid discrimination or intolerance of any one or more communities. A quote from Pete Stone summarises it perfectly as: “Diversity is about getting the right mix; inclusivity is about getting the mix right.”

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Carmela Vitale, the inventor of the ‘pizza saver’ (so iconic!) – the object that prevents the top of food containers, like a pizza or cake box, from collapsing or caving in at the middle and touching or ruining the food inside. She received a patent for the pizza saver in 1985.

From Leanne – Account Manager

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Josephine Cochrane developed in 1887, the first commercially successful dishwasher, together with mechanic George Butters. Life changing in my opinion!

What does inclusivity mean to you?

A feeling of being equal and appreciated to everyone no matter your race, religion, gender, ability, sexuality.

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Amelia Earhart was the first woman to ever fly solo across the Atlantic in 1932 and she became the first woman pilot in 1935 after flying solo from Hawaii to California. She embarked upon her lifelong dream of flying across the world in 1937, however, her flight went missing on that trip and she was never seen again.

She inspires me as she did what she wanted to do despite society’s views on what women can/can’t do, she saw this as the challenge to be overcome, not a limitation.

Hanna – Account Manager

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Any woman who is a parent, carer, grandmother as anyone who can care for, be responsible for and raise another human is remarkable

What does inclusivity mean to you?

It means that no one is left out.

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

Kevlar/bullet proof fibre – founded by Stephanie Kwolek. Who knew?! I used to be in the police so have an appreciation for how important this is.

From Caroline – Finance and HR Manager

Which women (or woman) inspires you?

Two women who I have found inspirational – Queen Elizabeth II and my mum.

What does inclusivity mean to you?

To me, inclusivity is being allowed to be treated equally, fairly and with respect regardless of your gender, race, sexuality or disability.

What is your favourite female achievement or invention and why?

The Covid-19 vaccine, Prof Sarah Gilbert showed determination, perseverance and drive and has helped to save potentially many millions of lives.
